The ten-storey office tower, which is thirty years old, experienced a partial failure involving a six-ton precast concrete façade panel on the 8th floor. This panel, integral to the glazing system, detached from the building by 150mm. Following a comprehensive assessment of the partial failure, and construction methods by our structural engineers, it was determined that all existing façade panels, including those connected to the glazing system, needed to be removed on both level and 10.Our scope of work involved designing and constructing new façade panels and reinstating the shopfront glazing.
This Townsville CBD high-profile construction project faced unique challenges due to its visibility, busy location, and access constraints.
To address these issues, lightweight steel-framed replacement façade panels clad in FC sheet were strategically chosen during the design phase. This decision not only met structural needs but also optimised crane operations from ground level.Collaboration with neighbouring businesses and the city council ensured minimal disruption through carefully timed road closures. Safety was also a top priority throughout, influencing material choices and crane operations.
This successful project demonstrated effective problem-solving in a demanding environment, showcasing our commitment to strategic decision-making and collaboration.
